Mission & History

Our Mission

Environment Erie is committed to the sustainability of our community’s natural resources through restoration, revitalization, and education.

Our History

To many, Environment Erie would be considered a relatively new organization on the nonprofit and environmental scene, however Environment Erie’s parent organizations have deep roots in the Erie region. In 2011 Environment Erie was produced through a merger of two long-standing local entities, Pennsylvania Lake Erie Watershed Association (PLEWA), and the youth education program Earth Action.

Since its inception, Environment Erie has educated over 1,000 households about stormwater managament and composting, installed nine rain gardens across the county, and partnered with five neighborhood organizations to reclaim vacant lots.
