PRESQUE ISLE AUDUBON’S ANNOUNCES DATES
FOR FIFTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF THE BIRDS
Presque Isle Audubon will host its fifth annual Festival of the Birds at Presque Isle on May 11-13,
2012.
The festival begins on Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday afternoon, and includes
birding field trips on the park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, workshops on birds and other
nature-related topics, a welcome reception on Friday night and a dinner and keynote address on
Saturday evening.
The weekend is scheduled to coincide with the time when many songbird species, like warblers, are
migrating through the area. Presque Isle’s unique setting on the south shore of Lake Erie, makes it
a perfect place for birds to stop, rest and refuel before crossing the open water on their journey
north.
This year’s Keynote speaker is Julie Zickefoose, a noted writer, artist and naturalist. Her books
include The Bluebird Effect (due March, 2012), Letters from Eden and Backyard Birding. She is a
commentator for National Public Radio.

A copy of her book, The Bluebird Effect, will be a part of the welcome bag that each participant
receives. Besides the book, festival participants will also receive goodies from sponsors, local
merchants and more.
Full-weekend registration is $100 per person and includes entrance to all festival activities. One-day
registrations are also available.
